Developing methods for automatic recognition of the affective user state with physiological signals, which is an enabling technology for future human-computer-interfaces

Real-time Recognition of User State with Physiological Signals

My main research area is physiological signal processing: the development of methods and algorithms for the automatic, on-line recognition of the affective user state on the basis of physiological measurements. Specific Topics are data acquisition, affect elicitation, data-driven and fast feature extraction, artefact recognition, user-independent classification and user adaption. The field of possible applications ranges from affect-aware user interfaces to completely new applications related to affect. This research has been supported by the research projects Smartweb and HUMAINE.

Automatic Pronuciation Assessment

Another focus of my research is automatic pronuciation assessment and prosody scoring for the purpose of computer-assisted language learning. This research is being funded by the research project C-AuDiT.
