On October 28th, Jessica Rivera-Villicana from the Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A2I2) in Deakin University, Australia will give a talk in our lab.
Title: "Between AI's Research and Practice"
Time: 14:00 on October 28th
Room: 02.152
Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) research has seen significant progress in recent years. However, improvements in algorithmic metrics such as accuracy are often bound by data constraints and domain assumptions that cannot be made in a real-world scenario. Furthermore, differences in areas of expertise between software engineers and researchers hinder the success of AI-based systems with regards to reliability, robustness and maintainability. A2I2 aims to bridge these gaps towards building products that make the most out of both worlds. This talk introduces A2I2’s brand of translational research, an overview of current projects, the challenges with AI applications, the approaches proposed to tackle them, and potential collaboration opportunities.
Bio:
Jessica Rivera-Villicana is a Research Fellow at the Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A2I2), Deakin University, Australia. She has experience as a researcher and has worked as a software engineer. She currently works in multi-disciplinary projects to create domain models for AI that can be used in production environments leveraging software engineering best practices. Jessica received her PhD in Computer Science from RMIT University, Australia and her Bachelor degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico. During her PhD, she studied the application of AI techniques to model human behavior in computer games; environments commonly used to simulate real world environments. Her research interests include player and user modelling, machine learning applications, and computer-human interaction.
